3D Members - Cara Despres (Treasurer)

I took up drama when I went to St John's School for the Deaf (Yorkshire). I have always been interested in drama, but there were no opportunities for Deaf people in Leicester, where I lived.

I belonged to a Deaf Mother and Toddler Group in Derby and asked about CVS funding to start a drama group for deaf people. We applied and successfully received funding to set up our own company and work with "Red Earth Theatre Company" as a 2-year project.

I have worked with 3D since 2003 and am currently the treasurer. Over the past few years we have produced a variety of plays and shows for Deaf audiences, including signed poetry. I have also appeared in productions of 'Cinderella', 'Arabian Nights', 'Woman in Black', 'The Deaf Variety Show', 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Secrets Silence Shame'.

I have enjoyed all the challenges I have had with 3D and look forward to appearing in more productions.
