3D Members - Debbie Parkes
I have been with 3D now for five years. Initially I was their interpreter for two years and then became a member/committee member. I really enjoy being part of the group even though it is hard work and can be quite stressful at times!
My first acting role was as the 'Woman in Black' spooky, I was completely covered from head to toe in a black cloak and had to walk around the stage as if floating on air!! Luckily my character was only seen not heard, as I had no lines!
I was then in a couple of sketches in the Deaf Variety Show where I was a contestant in Deaf Factor; hearing aid users in the audience had a shock when I started singing!!
In June 2007 I took on the role of 'Director' and created 'Secret Silence Shame', a serious drama showing what it was like for some deaf people in the 1950s, issues and barriers within families. This was a major challenge for all of us but well worth it.
I have seen 3D Theatre Company grow and develop over the years and I am proud to be part of such a successful amateur theatre company with many highly skilled/talented people who I am sure will carry 3D's work onwards and upwards.
